Treat your drains....
Treat your drains once a month with drain cleaner... whether it needs it or not. It'll prevent buildup in the pipes. Use a non poisonous brand like Bio Clean ( a blend of organic enzymes & bacteria) It'll help keep the plumber away!
Only flush toilet paper....
Forget about those flushable wipes.... they create a lot of business for plumbers. ONLY TOILET PAPER.... the manufacturer of flushable wipes will not be the one to pay for your new sewer, especially if you have an existing root problem!

Be kind to your garbage disposal....
Do not treat it like a garbage can. You CANNOT send everything down the disposal. Large food scraps should go in the trash. Use lots of cold water as you operate it. Ignore this advice and you'll give the plumber your money. Also, give it the once a month drain cleaner treatment
Check water pressure....
Make sure that your water pressure is in the safe range: 55 to 65 PSI. The pressure regulator to your house can fail. Excessive pressure can burst water heaters and pipes, This will lead to expensive repairs.
